Greater Tabernacle Cathedral Featured on FOX 32 “Monument Moment”

Greater Tabernacle Cathedral was recently highlighted on FOX 32 Chicago’s Monument Moment, a segment that showcases significant historic and cultural landmarks

throughout the city.

The feature recognized our church not only as a house of worship, but as a historic architectural treasure with deep roots in Chicago’s story. The building was designed by renowned Pullman architect Solon Spencer Beman, whose work helped shape some of the most notable structures in the Pullman community.

The coverage also acknowledged the church’s historical ties to Barack Obama, who began his community organizing work in the Roseland area — further connecting the legacy of our church to a broader narrative of faith, community development, and civic transformation.

Now designated as both a Chicago Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Greater Tabernacle Cathedral stands as a living testament to faith, resilience, and community impact. While we honor our historic foundation, we remain committed to strengthening families, empowering communities, and transforming lives for generations to come.

We are grateful to FOX 32 for helping us share our story and for the continued support of our Greater family and community partners.

Beman, the renowned architect who also designed many of the historic buildings in Pullman, one of Chicago’s most significant heritage communities. This site is also connected to Barack Obama’s early Chicago journey, widely referenced as part of the neighborhood story where his community organizing work began. Today, this sacred ground continues its legacy—strengthening faith, building strong families, and transforming lives.
