I Am Enough

Have you ever felt like no matter what you do, it's never enough? You work harder, give more, try to please everybody, and still feel like you're falling short. Somebody always seems more successful, more talented, or further along than you.

But here's the problem: when you allow other people to determine your worth, you'll spend your whole life trying to meet expectations that keep changing.

At some point, you've got to stop asking everybody else whether you're enough and start listening to what God has already said about you.

The Scripture

2 Corinthians 3:5 (KJV)

The Biblical Connection

When Paul wrote these words, he was explaining that his ability to serve God did not come from his own qualifications or accomplishments. His confidence was not in himself. His confidence was in God.

Paul understood something we must learn: God never intended for us to find our sufficiency apart from Him.

This doesn't mean we have no weaknesses or that we never need to grow. It means our weaknesses don't disqualify us from being loved by God or used for His purpose.

Think about Moses. When God called him, Moses questioned his own ability. He wondered whether he could speak well enough or lead effectively enough. But God didn't respond by telling Moses how impressive he was. God assured him of His presence and promised to help him.

That's the difference between self-confidence and God-confidence. Self-confidence says, "I can do this because I'm capable." God-confidence says, "I can obey God because He will give me what I need."

Life Application

Stop measuring your worth by what other people think about you.

You don't have to compete with somebody else's calling, compare yourself to somebody else's success, or spend your life trying to prove that you belong.

Your past doesn't have to define you. Your mistakes don't have to control you. And somebody else's opinion doesn't have to become your identity.

God created you with purpose, and through Christ, He offers you a new identity.

So the next time insecurity tells you that you're not enough, remember where your sufficiency comes from.

I am enough, not because of who I am, but because of whose I am.
